Video Blogging Tips with Gideon Shalwick

Many of us are already blogging, whether it be a personal blog, a recap or case study of your money making journey, or even just a diary… but how many of us are video blogging? I can tell you right now, the majority of people would much prefer watching a quick 5-10 minute video instead of reading a blog post that’s a few paragraphs long. Unfortunately for most of us, we just aren’t that great at video blogging, or don’t want to make online videos.

My friend Gideon Shalwick is just awesome at making videos and video blogging. While doing my interviews with top bloggers for Six Figure Affiliate Blogging, Gideon requested to do his interview through a video. He had the right idea! Not only is the video very high quality, but it’s also had nearly 2,000 views on YouTube. It’s not a ton, but it opens up a whole new source of traffic to view the interview, and actually draws in more interest than a typical Q&A text post.

The following is my interview with with Gideon, and from my Six Figure Affiliate Blogging ebook. You can download the full ebook for free at SixFigureAffiliateBlogging.com, which includes over 130 pages of content and interviews with 25 highly successful affiliates and bloggers.

Performance Marketing Expo in Miami

Lebron James isn’t the only big name to hit Miami, Florida this year. Performance Marketing Expo will be holding their first event in September at the at the Eden Roc Renaissance in Miami Beach. There are several well known names on the keynote speakers list, including Michael Tchong, Kris Jones, Stephan Spencer and myself.

This will be the first time I’ve seen Michael Tchong speak at a conference since my very first affiliate marketing conference at Commission Junction University in 2000. He’s always stuck out in my memory as an excellent speaker and my first keynote I had seen. If you can make it to Performance Marketing Expo, I would make sure not to miss Michael Tchong.

Performance Marketing Expo is also running an interview series with each of the speakers at their event. My interview just went live a few days ago. I touch on a few topics on how affiliate marketing works, why affiliate networks are still the backbone of the industry and the importance of building a brand through blogging. Click here to listen to the free podcast.

If you are in the Miami area or planning to attend Performance Marketing Expo, be sure to leave a comment so we can meet up or say hello.

Effectively Promoting Health & Beauty Offers with Health Converter

Viagra, Dream Weight Loss Pills and anything else you could imagine… everything you can imagine, it’s out there, and it’s probably sitting in your spam folder right now. Do you really think you would be getting these types of emails for the past decade if they didn’t work? The honest truth is weight loss products, herbal supplements and pharmaceuticals is where the money is at.

The big spammers have been cashing in on these offers and mailings for years now, yet you don’t hear much about them getting caught or action taken against them. Instead, the recent focus has been on rebill offers and their fake testimonials and their relation to celebrity endorsements. The FTC is cracking down, but that doesn’t mean the flow of money in this market is slowing down, it will just continue to increase for those who are doing it right.

HealthConverter.com is an affiliate network that specializes in health and beauty products. Officially launched in 2009, but active since 2008, the majority of their products are based off the rebill concept, which might leave a bad taste in your mouth, but as long as these products and offers are portrayed correctly and don’t screw over the customer, they are actually legit. The rebill concept has been given a bad name with marketers pushing the likes of Oprah, Dr. Oz and Rachel Ray on products they have absolutely not association with, but the killer is how most of these fly by night companies would abuse the customer by rebilling them constantly before being able to cancel their free trial.

With that said, Health Converter has made a clear decision that they are in the health and beauty market for the long run, and doing what they can to keep everyone legitimate. It’s not only an affiliate at risk when using bad marketing tactics, but it falls back on the parent company as well. In a recent interview with Market Health owner Gary McNelley, Gary goes into details on how the FTC is cracking down hard on advertising tactics in this niche. Gary also recommends a law firm, and having your landing pages reviewed before going live. This is all to meet the standards of FTC and keep you (the affiliate), the advertiser and customer safe and happy.

Narrow Focus with Big Gains

We already covered how Health Converter works differently from other marketing companies, and tries to keep their affiliates and marketing efforts legit. For anyone promoting in the health and beauty niche, you should take a look at Health Converter. While many well known affiliate networks have a ton of offers to choose from in this area, Health Converter focuses only in health and beauty, and knows what works. The management of offers and financial handled by Health Converter can be broken down into the following categories.

- Tier 1 advertisers, such as Extenze, Hydroxatone, and Hydrolyze… these are all of the very well known products that you see advertised on tv.

- Tier 2 advertisers, which are lesser known products but still in high demand. These advertisers have to prepay directly to Health Converter for all leads. If prepaid funds are exhausted before the advertiser submits more funding, the offer is redirected to another product which is already prepaid.

- Affiliates and Networks; As mentioned, many networks have a numerous amount of health and beauty offers available, many of them being from Health Converter. You will find their offers on networks such as Neverblue, Copeac, Azoogle, Ads4Dough and more. High end “Big Pharma” (millions in ad spend) offers are also available within the Health Converter network, but on a private and accepted basis.

Why does all of this matter? Just look around at some networks over the past year. How many of them were thrown under the bus by fly by night companies paying out $50+ on a rebill offer, then not paying the networks. The networks paid out to the affiliates and got royally screwed, having to make up for the difference and even putting some networks out of business.

How to Effectively Make Money with Health & Beauty Offers

When I talked with Health Converter, it was important to discuss the best ways of promotion and how to get the best return on investment. As expected, it’s all about the pre-sell. Testimonials, review sites and “personal story” blogs are continually destroying the competition on conversion rates. You likely won’t see the killer numbers many did, back when the the free trial promotions just started, but there is still plenty of money to be made.

No need to point out any specific landing pages or urls, as you will still see these offers pushed on many major news, espn, social networks and high traffic entertainment sites. (basically any site with advertising on a cpm basic). Another huge method for promotion is PPV (pay per view) advertising. With the pre-sell landing pages on some of these offers converting so well, it’s easy enough to create a lander that pops under when visiting a site and the affiliate only has to pay pennies for each view. The high converting pre-sell lander, plus the high commission (usually $30-$45.. but up to $99.95) from free trial offers makes for a winning combination.

Keep in mind it’s not as simple as buying up as much traffic as you can for cheap, then throwing your lander up. It’s all about testing your lander, getting your pages in front of the right people and not buying crap traffic. If you would like more tips on creating high converting landers and getting heath and beauty offers in front of the right people, email my friend Justin at Health Converter and he’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Healthy & Beauty Vertical: Competition, Demand and Profits

With everything covered so far, it’s easy to see how many marketers might shy away from this market as it seems too volatile… but like most markets, that’s where the money is. The FTC has scared a lot of the competition away, but also leaving the door open for those remaining to succeed any more. Just a quick search on Google’s Adwords Tool shows nearly 500,000 searches a month for “Extenze”. That’s just for it’s direct name, think about the advertising opportunities when targeting relevant search terms, competitors and many of the other products available through Health Converter.

Another improvement that Health Converter has over the competition, is in their efforts to provide for the customer. Some free trial offers in the past were limited on what type of credit cards could be used to place an order. HC has offers that can accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and even Discover card, while offering an easy cancellation process to the customer. This should open to a new market of customers, while improving conversions for affiliates. To top it off, all offers on Health Converter that support these payment processes, also have an unlimited cap for affiliate driving traffic. No more having to switch urls between offers and networks each day when you would hit your cap.

Health and Beauty offers available on their network pay in the $30-$45 range. As mentioned, most of these are on a free trial basis. Health Converter also makes weekly wire payments for any affiliates pushing $1,000 or more per week.

The bottom line is Health Converter is one of the big players in the health and beauty market. If you have any interest in breaking into this niche, worried about FTC guidelines, or even improving your current numbers, be sure to contact Justin, or simply sign up to their network at HealthConverter.com.

Must See Speakers at Affiliate Summit NY 2010

We are just a few short weeks away from Affiliate Summit East 2010 in New York City at the fabulous Hilton. The NY Hilton is well known in the affiliate industry for hosting large events like AdTech.

There’s an elite crowd of affiliate marketer veterans who can proudly say they have attend nearly every Affiliate Summit. I remember being at the first Affiliate Summit conference in NY way back in 2004, which also included a short three day cruise to Halifax, Canada. The majority of attendees all knew each other very well, and there were probably less than 200 people in attendance. Jump ahead to 2010 and Affiliate Summit is still growing in size year after years… now with THOUSANDS of attendees.

After attending so many Affiliate Summit conferences, some of the speakers would focus on the same topics year after year. If you’ve attended Affiliate Summit for several years, or a veteran in this game, the sessions could get tedious and slow. I was glad to see Affiliate Summit change the speaker setup this year and allow for a voting platform and bring in some new faces.

Going to Affiliate Summit East and not sure which sessions to attend? Here are a few sessions and speakers I am looking forward.

Sunday, August 15

Fast Track Your Business with Outsourcing
- James Martell, President, Net Guides Publishing Inc. (Twitter @jamesmartell)
Session 1b – Location: Murray Hill Suite – Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm

Zac’s Thoughts: I’ve never personally met James Martell, or purchased any of his products, but this guy is all over the place. His name and face should be familiar to most of you if you have a year or more under your belt in the internet marketing world. I’d also like to see what James has to say about outsourcing and his personal experiences.

——————————————————————-

New Lead Generation Models: Social-Mobile-Viral
- Declan Dunn, CEO, Dunn Direct Media (Twitter @declandunn)
Session 2b – Location: Murray Hill Suite – Time: 1:30pm-2:30pm

Zac’s Thoughts: I’ll tell you right now, Declan Dunn is one of the hidden gems at Affiliate Summit this year. I first met Declan back at CJU in 2000 and have been close friends with him since. Whatever Declan touches turns to gold, and he is one of the smartest guys I know. I’m sure Declan will have some great case studies with numbers that will blow your mind. After this session you won’t be able to wait to get back to your computer and start killing it with new ad campaigns. You can not miss this session!

——————————————————————-

Affiliate Tactics, Opportunities, and Traffic Comparisons
- Kim Kaplan, Vice President, Plentyoffish
Session 3d – Location: Sutton Complex (South & Regent) – Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm

Zac’s Thoughts: PlentyOfFish is finally getting the recognition it deserves, but at the same time that means more advertisers and affiliates will flow on it’s ad network. If you got in early when Facebook was “the new ad platform”, PoF has given many affiliates a flash to the past with that same type of success. It would have been great to see Markus Frind (PoF Founder) speak at the event, but it’s good to see the company making an apperance. Maybe next year Markus?

——————————————————————-

Monday, August 16

Turn Website & Social Media Traffic Into Gold
- Jay Berkowitz, CEO, Ten Golden Rules (Twitter @JayBerkowitz)
Session 4b – Location: Murray Hill Suite – Time: 11:30am-12:30pm

Zac’s Thoughts: Jay Berkowitz is another great success story, however one of my favorite things about Jay is how he creates his slide presentations. Unlike other speakers that have a lot of text and dead time going from topic to topic, Jay really knows how to hit all of his points and get your brain going. Don’t be surprised if Jay shows up with a killer presentation and 70+ slides!

——————————————————————-

Facebook Advertising From Soup To Nuts
- Jeremy Schoemaker, Marketer, ShoeMoney Capital INC (Twitter @shoemoney)
Session 5a – Location: Gramercy Suite – Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm

Zac’s Thoughts: Jeremy is like the “Kevin Bacon” of internet marketing… it seems everyone is connected to him in some way or another. You are either promoting his latest coaching program, or he introduced you to that new contact that just might help get you to that next level. Love him or hate him, Jeremy is a great guy and will probably end up with a “standing room” only session. Get to this one early!

——————————————————————-

Crowdsource Your Success
- Matt Mickiewicz, Co-Founder, 99designs, Flippa & SitePoint (Twitter @sitepointmatt)
Session 6b – Location: Murray Hill Suite – Time: 3:30pm-4:30pm

Zac’s Thoughts: If you are hesitant about skipping this session, just look at the resume after Matt’s name. Here you have the co-founder of 99Designs, Flippa and Sitepoint. “Nuff Said!”… Three amazing sites that I still use today, and I’m sure many of you do as well.

——————————————————————-

How Bloggers Can Successfully Connect with Audiences
Session 9b – Location: Murray Hill Suite – Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm

* Kristopher B. Jones, Founder & President, KrisJones.com (Twitter @krisjonescom) (Moderator)
* Drew Bennett, Blogger/Photographer, BenSpark.com (Twitter @BenSpark)
* Tim Jones, Co-Owner, Destinations To Explore, Inc. (Twitter @TheRealTimJones)
* Murray Newlands, Co-Founder, Influence People (Twitter @murraynewlands)
* Eric Schechter, Social Media Manager, Clickbooth (Twitter @EricSchechter)

Zac’s Thoughts: Here’s a good panel for any bloggers out there. Besides from the fact that everyone on this panel is a good friend of mine, they all have established a name for themselves through blogging and making the right connections. Panels usually swing both ways on whether they provide decent content, so make sure to stick around and talk to these guys after the event for future business.

——————————————————————-

All in all, this coming Affiliate Summit in New York City should be another great event. Make the right connections and bring your business to another level.

- Register for Affiliate Summit East NYC 2010

Skills to Pay the Bills with Jeremy Schoemaker

Do you have the skills to pay the bills like Jeremy Schoemaker of ShoeMoney.com? Jeremy is one of the most well know affiliates and bloggers in the affiliate / internet marketing space. Jeremy’s story is amazing. In short, over the past decade Jeremy has completely turned his life around, from being fired at many jobs, to now running his own multi-million dollar company, Jeremy is a perfect example of the success we would all like to be part of.

The following is my interview with with Jeremy, and from my Six Figure Affiliate Blogging ebook. You can download the full ebook for free at SixFigureAffiliateBlogging.com, which includes over 130 pages of content and interviews with 25 highly successful affiliates and bloggers.

Interview with Jeremy Schoemaker (AKA ShoeMoney)

1.) Please tell us a little about yourself.

Sure, I am Jeremy Schoemaker. Husband, father, and small business owner. I started a mobile website called NextPimp.com in 2003 when out of the blue one day I got a call from Google asking me if I would run AdSense. I gave it a shot and was making good money pretty much out of the gate. From there I became a bit infatuated with how to make money online.

2.) When did you start blogging and how did you get into it?

I just wanted a place to put my thoughts and experiences on. I started sharing lots of stuff I was learning about making money on the internet.

3.) Besides financially, how has blogging helped your business and brand?

Blogging really helps you connect with your customers. It shows them you are human just like they are… and many times you can be a dumbass … just like they are.

4.) How have you incorporated affiliate marketing into your blog?

Occasionally I will talk about services or products I use. I will use affiliate links to the companies websites instead of direct linking.

5.) In your opinion, what is the single best way to monetize a blog?

The absolute best way is to create a product. If you have a good RSS readership then obviously you have been giving a lot of value to your readers and they trust you.

6.) What would you recommend for a new blogger, that was only looking to blog for financial gain?

I would probably recommend they don’t start. I have never heard of a successful blogger who started because they wanted to make money from the blog. I have blogged for almost 7 years 1.2 posts a day on average. I wrote every day when nobody read the blog and someday if nobody reads again I will still blog my post per day.

7.) Any recommended blogs or resources for bloggers looking to bring their blog to the next level?

I think problogger.net is the absolute best resource online for bloggers. Whether you want to make money or just blog problogger always has amazing content to help you…. and he publishes it every day.

8.) Do you have any big announcements or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

Well I just launched the ShoeMoney System and that is going to keep me busy ;) Its a step by step training system for making money on the internet… and with a 100% no questions asked money back guarantee if you think its not for you.

Exploding From 7,727 RSS Readers to Over 105,000!

There is no doubt, the hardest part about creating and successfully managing a blog, is getting subscribers and readers to visit your site. We all start out at ZERO, then we anxiously keep an eye on our RSS counters and watch as the numbers slowly increase each day. First you hit 50, then get really excited when you hit the BIG 100, and if you are fortunate enough to soon hit 1,000… you know you are doing well. After a thousand subscribers, the next big milestone is 10,000… but can you imagine hitting and passing the 100,000 mark? Even more impressive would be to pass the 100,000 subscriber mark within only a couple years… is it even possible?

Yes, it is! This is exactly what John Chow did with his controversial blog that never seems to stop growing. In August 2008 John’s FeedBurner counter showed 7,727 RSS readers, and now it’s over 105,000 subscribers today. What’s his secret? How did he turn a blog that talked about his daily life and what he ate for dinner into a six figure business ($40,000+ a month) and grab such a following?

It’s been a wild and most profitable ride, and now John has finally come out with his own Blog Profit Camp to share his stories, case studies and help others achieve the same success. Let’s be honest though… achieving the same success and John would be quite the mission, but achieiving even just a small percentage of his success and what you can learn from his experience would put you on your way to success.

I’m not going to try and sell you on a new membership service, or even a limited trial offer. Instead, you can simply download John’s new free ebook called “The Ultimate Blog Profit Model”, which recieved over 7,000 downloads in it’s first 48 hours of release. In this free guide, John walks you through the process of building a blog, establishing a readership and key tips that helped him get to where he is today.

Watch the video below, or click here to download.

Win a Free Apple iPad!
Lastly, anyone who downloads the John’s free guide will be entered to win a free Apple iPad. John has so many of these laying around the house, he seems to hand them out to anyone that reads his stuff!

Affiliate Bloggers Releasing Their Own Products

It’s been a very busy past several weeks for affiliate bloggers and the releasing of their own products. The affiliate world is changing and so are the affiliate marketers who live in it. With search engines, ad platforms and social networks cracking down on what they are allowing with affiliate related offers, we are seeing more affiliates come up with their own products instead of relying solely on arbitrage with the networks.

Heck, I even came out with my own product last month too! While many are focusing on the sale or membership concept, I went with a different approach and focused on building a free product I can continually update in coming months (new update coming next week), while building a larger readership. With so much focus on affiliate marketing, I tried something different and combined the power of affiliate marketing and blogging, and created “Six Figure Affiliate Blogging“.

Let’s take a look the a few other well known affiliate bloggers and their program launches over the past few weeks.

- Jonathan Volk’s Facebook Ads Guide
Volk has been on a rampage lately. First with his free 101 Affiliate Guide, then building his blog readership to over 30,000… which rightfully led to the release of his Facebook Ads Guide and Forum. One of my favorite features of Jon’s guide and forum area, is the focus on real case studies and whats working. (Price: $99.95)

- Ian Fernando’s InfiniteFB
Ian also released his own Facebook marketing guide and learning program, which promises to teach you the ins and outs of Facebook advertising within 30 days. Once again, it’s all about case studies and sharing the knowledge these top affiliates have already learned while making their money through Facebook advertising. (Price: $37)

- John Chow’s Blog Profit Camp
As one of the fastest and more profitable make money bloggers out there, it was only a matter of time before John Chow came out with his own product. Right now John is in the beginning launch phases of his Blog Profit Camp by giving away a free guide on how to make money through blogging. In a few days this program will launch into a full training program with limited seats, and it’s goal is to help you become a full time blogger. (Price: Free Guide, TBD)

- Carl Ocab’s Ultimate Blog Theme
Well over a year ago Carl created the Ultimate Blog Theme and since writing my first review on it, I’ve had several people order the theme through the blog. I even use the theme on several of my blogs. Load up the latest UBT 3.0 and you will have a fully customizable site in minutes. The most improved features are the ability to change around the site design so you don’t look anything like other UBT users, and never having to touch any code, all customization and options are now in the WordPress admin area. (Price: $97)

- Super Affiliate Twin’s Internet University
There is a whole world out there that has no idea how to make money online, or even what affiliate marketing is. The Super Affiliate Twins created Internet University to be a knowledge base for everything internet marketing. Really, they do cover everything, just look over their first few sales pages for the program! For beginners or anyone looking to improve their money making game, the Super Affiliate Twins have put together a membership site offering everything you need including videos, coaching, hosting packages, software and more. (Price: $99.95)

What do all of these affiliate / internet marketers have in common? Not only are they successful at what they do, and launched their own learning programs based off what they are good at, but they also have created their own branding and following through their blogs. If you haven’t started your own blog and may want to launch your own product in the future, you should start working on your trust, following and branding now.

Every day we are sent a ton of emails on the latest ways to get around Google, or make millions of dollars on local search marketing. What do you make of the increase in affiliates creating their own products? It’s nice to see some of the lesser known marketers coming out with their own products.

When’s the last time you shelled out a few bucks for a program, membership or guide? Have you tried any of these?
